Quizzes: How To Grade a Quiz
Multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the blank, and matching question types are graded automatically by Moodle. Essay questions need to be manually graded.
Please note that students will not receive a final grade for a quiz until after the essay questions have been graded.
Manually Grading Essay Questions by Student
- Select the quiz you would like to grade.
- Select the Attempts hyperlink. None of your students have attempted the quiz if there is no hyperlink.
You can access a student’s essay questions through two different ways:
- Select Review Attempt under the student’s name that you wish to grade.
- Select Requires Grading on the question itself which will be found to the right of the student’s name. Any essay questions will say requires grading if it has not yet been graded.
- Select the Make Comment or Override Mark hyperlink for each question.
- A pop-up window will open; you can add comments and enter or edit the mark for the question here (please note: you cannot enter a value outside of zero and the point range indicated).
- Select Save to save the grade and comments.
Manually Grading Essay Questions by Question
- Access the quiz you would like to grade.
- Locate the Navigation menu. Select Results under the quiz, and then select Manual grading.
Questions that require grading will be listed on the next screen. Select the link in the To Grade column.
- To access or edit existing grades, select the link in the Already Graded column
- To access or edit all ungraded or graded responses, select the link in the Total column.
- Add feedback in the Comment box and a grade in the Mark box.
- Select Save and Go to Next Page when you reach the end of the page.
