Forums: How To Review/Grade A Student’s Cumulative Forum Posts

Moodle provides instructors access to all of a student’s forum posts in one location.

Accessing All Posts by the Participants Page

  1. Select the Participants link in the Navigation block under Current course.forumparticipants
  2. The Participants page lists all course members. Click the name of the student for whom you would like to review all posts.
  3. The page will refresh to the student’s profile page. In the Miscellaneous profile block, you have the option to review the selected student’s Forums posts or Forum discussions.

  4. You are able to view and grade all discussion forum posts your student has made by clicking Forum Posts.
  5. You are also able to view and grade all discussion forums your student has started by clicking Forum Discussions.

Accessing Posts in a Single Forum

  1. There is a Search forums block in the top-right corner of each forum. Select the Search forums button to access advanced search options.forumsearch
  2. A number of search options will be made available, including the following:
    • These words can appear anywhere in the post
    • This exact phrase must appear in the post
    • These words should NOT be included
    • These words should appear as whole words
    • Posts must be newer than this (includes dropdowns to indicate a date)
    • Posts must be older than this (includes dropdowns to indicate a date)
    • Choose which forums to search (includes dropdown of possible forums)
    • These words should be in the subject
    • This name should match the author
  3. To search by student, enter the student’s name into the This name should match the author entry field. Choosing only this search option will display every post in the entire course from that author. You can access posts from the specified author in a particular forum by specifying a forum in the Choose which forums to search dropdown along with entering a name in the last field.forumadvancedsearch
