Course reports are general, course-level activity reports. These reports can help an instructor determine when, and if, students have accessed resources, participated, or submitted activities within the course.

Reports can be found in the Administration block of the course. The following are several of the most common reports; additional reports may be available.

course reports

Dates

The Dates report allows you to view and edit all programmable dates and times within the course on a single page, filtered by activity type.

Logs

The Logs report has different filtering options. You can choose to pull the logs for a particular student or all participants, a certain day, a particular activity, an action (create, view, update, delete, or all actions), and logs are provided with several display and download options. You will see records of all activity in the course if you don’t choose any options from the dropdown boxes.

course logs

All records are time stamped and include the user’s name, event context, IP address, and basic information.

Live Logs

Live logs show all activity by all users within the past hour.

Activity Reports

The activity report is an outline of the course and shows how many views each item has, as well as the time and date of the last access.

Course Participation

This report shows you which students have viewed an activity/ resource and whether or not they have participated.

You can filter by activity module (i.e. assignments, forums, quizzes, etc.), how many days back to look, the role (choose “Student” from the list), and the action (view or post).

Click Go to see a particular user and whether or not they have completed the selected action (view or post) for the activity or resource.

participation report

An extremely useful feature of the participation report is the option to send a message to any students who have not completed a certain action. Select the boxes next to the names of the students you want to message (or choose Select all, Deselect all, or Select all ‘no’ at the bottom of the list) and choose send message from the drop-down menu.

Student Reports

Student reports are similar to course reports but display information for a particular student.

You will first need to select a student to access student reports. Click on Participants in your Navigation block or the Navigation panel on the left.

After the participants list/roster loads, click either the student’s name or profile picture. From the students’ profile page, under Reports choose the report you would like to view. There are several course reports available, such as today’s logs, all logs, outline report, complete report, and grade. These reports will display the student’s activity in your course only.
